About Me
Laura Appel BSc, MA, UKCP accred

Welcome to a safe, confidential space

Recognising you’d like someone to listen and deeply support you, is the first step towards change and transformation. We often look after the health of our body yet forget to invest time in the well-being of our mind and spirit. I hold first class honours in Psychology (BSC) from Cardiff University and a Masters (MA) in mindfulness-based Core Process psychotherapy (MBCPP) from the Karuna institute, in partnership with Middlesex University. I’m a fully accredited member of the United Kingdom Counsel of Psychotherapists (UKCP) and the Association of Core Process Psychotherapists (ACPP)

“Being listened to by someone who understands, makes it possible for people to listen more accurately to themselves.”

Close up leaf

I believe much of our ongoing suffering arises from feeling alone with our painful or difficult experiences. Therefore, I’m a passionate believer in the transformational power of a trusted relationship. I offer a warm, supportive space where you can be heard without judgement and held with compassion. It’s a unique space, solely for you, to be supported in exploring what's happening in your mind and body in the present moment. It’s also a place where you can be valued for who you authentically are beneath the difficulties, supporting you to reconnect with your inner resources and find a way back to wellness.

I offer long term or short term psychotherapy to support those experiencing:

Stress • Relationship difficulties • Panic attacks • Anxiety • Chronic illness • Bereavement • Redundancy • Depression • Addiction • Trauma • Spiritual difficulties

Background & Interests

Having worked in both education and business for many years, I began psychotherapy training with the Bath Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre (BCPC) where I gained a foundation diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling. This is founded on the belief that we all have an inner drive towards being well and given the right conditions, such as an empathic therapeutic relationship, we can all move out of difficulty and thrive. I continued my training with the Karuna Institute in Dartmoor, which offered an in depth master’s level qualification in Core Process Psychotherapy – an embodied mindfulness based approach to psychotherapy.

I’m extremely passionate about the connection between mind, body and spirit, as well as the healing power of present moment awareness and the therapeutic relationship. I have a particular interest in the effects of traumatic experiences, the transformational power of relationships and the wisdom of the body. My own daily meditation practice is the ground from which I begin all my therapeutic work. I also continually engage in continual professional development to ensure I remain up to date with the latest research around effective practices.
